The 2010 Parents for Public Schools of Greater Jackson Parent Leadership Institute is open for applications

Dates: August 20-21, September 24-25, October 15-16, 2010
Selection Criteria
Participation in the Parents for Public Schools Leadership Institute is open to parents, concerned citizens, and caregivers who have or have had children in public schools. Participants will be selected on the basis of:
- Demonstrated leadership potential
- Interest and/or active participation in schools
- Willingness to commit to leading at least one project in a school or community
- Commitment to attend all three two-day sessions and to maintain an ongoing connection with the Parents for Public Schools Leadership Institute for no less than two years.
Participants are selected without regard to race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin. There is no charge for participation. Applicants must obtain two supporting references (forms attached).
Online Application
To use the online application you must first have an account with Parents for Public Schools of Greater Jackson. To create an account, simply click on the "Create an Account" link on the sidebar and follow the instructions. If you are already logged in, click here to start the application.
The online application includes five sheets. All the sheets must be completed. If you are unable to complete the application during a single session, simply click submit on the last page and log out. When you wish to return, please log in and you will be able to continue the application. When you have completed the application, check the box to indicate that the application is complete. In addition to completing the online application, you must also sign the following downloadable form to indicate your personal commitment to the program:
You also need to provide references from two people who can tell us more about you. Please use the attached form for references. These must be received by April 16, 2010:
Since participation in the Parents for Public Schools Parent Leadership Institute – Greater Jackson involves attending meetings during the work week, we are willing to contact your employer to explain the importance of the Institute and encourage your employer’s support. The purpose of our letter is NOT to request time off for you. It is very important that you discuss your interest in attending the Institute with your employer. If you feel that a letter from Parents for Public Schools would help you, please give us the contact name, title and address to write to AFTER your acceptance.
